Lines of Action (LOA) is a two-player game. White and black each start with their forces divided into two groups, on opposite sides of the board. The object of the game is to unite the forces so that your pieces form one group.
The Moves
Pieces move in vertical, horizontal, or diagonal directions. A piece can move the same number of squares as there are pieces (including the opponent's) on that line. You can jump over your own pieces but not your opponent's. If a move lands one of your opponent's pieces, you can capture that piece. But be careful; capturing may make it easier for your opponent to connect his forces. And if you capture all but one of your opponent's pieces, then his piece automatically forms one group!
To move, click on the piece you want to move and then click on the square you want to move to.
This Lines of Action program has a "Show Legal Moves" option which will indicate the legal moves for any piece. For more information on the rules, see "Rules" under the Lines of Action Apple menu. See "About..." under the LOA Apple menu for complete information on the other features of the application.
